Karelian Database Compliments the HISKI records for Karelia.
Manttari Mänttäri Family Association was founded in Liikkala village, Sippola parish, province of Viipuri (Viborg), Finland, in 1934. At the moment it is the sixth oldest family association in Finland. Their files now contain 60,000 people, starting in 1610.

Sukunimi This is a Finnish census surname locater. It is all in Finnish, but you can type in the SURNAME you are researching, search under 1944, 1945-65, or 1966-onwards. A map of Finland will indicate where these surnames appeared within that time period, and a list will show the names of the towns and number of these names within it.
www.genealogia.fi - Finnish Names Leif Mether, webmaster for the FINNGEN mailing list, has written a comprehensive explanation (in English) of the origins of Finnish surnames. This is WONDERFUL! Also, a full listing of links (on the left side) will direct you to hundreds of international authors, books, and data on Finnish history and genealogy.

The Battles of the Winter War A very comprehensive website on the 1939-40 Finnish-Russian Winter War by Sami H. E. Korhonen. It is in English.
Cudgel War The Cudgel War was fought in the area of Finland in the late 16th Century. At first glance the war may look like an ordinary rebellion started by unsatisfied peasants. However there was much more to it. In the background was the power struggle of two lordly figures: King Sigismund, who was supported by the Finnish nobility, and Duke Carl, who encouraged the peasants to revolt, hoping to ascend to the throne through rebellion. The war got its name from the spiked clubs that the peasants used. Cudgels were the only effective weapon available to the peasants against the heavy armour of the knights.....

The President of Finland These pages present information on the institution of the presidency, former presidents and the present incumbent. There are also speeches by the President, her travel programme and picture material showing some aspects of her work. The information contents of the site are continually being added to.

Siirtolaisuusinstituutti - Institute of Migration Institute of Migration aims to promote and carry out migration and ethnic research and to encourage the compilation, storage and documentation of material relating to international and internal migration in Finland. It serves also as a resource site for genealogists.
Statistics Finland Statistics Finland operates administratively under the Ministry of Finance, but is fully and independently responsible for its activities, services and statistics. Statistics Finland has a personnel of around 1,100, of whom 200 are employed as statistical interviewers. In addition to its head office in Helsinki, Statistics Finland has regional service offices in Turku, Tampere, Seinäjoki and Oulu.
Statistics Finland combines collected data with its own expertise to produce statistics and information services for the needs of society, promotes the use of statistics and develops national official statistics.

helsinginsanomat Website of the largest newspaper in Finland.
Helsingin Sanomat's International Edition went online on September 15, 1999. The site contains abstracts in English of a number of daily stories, and also a weekly digest of edited articles from the newspaper. The daily material appears Mondays through Fridays at around 13.00 local time (GMT +2), and the weekly items are posted on the Web on Tuesday afternoons. Naturally major late-breaking stories are covered where possible outside of these hours.
WRN This is Finnish News (in Finnish) from recorded broadcasts of YLE Radio in Finland.
After you get the website, go to the bottom right and click onto the day you want, on the line "1100 UTC Finnish" and turn up your volume.
This is a good way to practice your Finnish, by listening to it!
